Dr. Petru Budrugeac is a senior researcher at National Institute for R&D in Electrical Engineering ICPE-CA and has
been involved in research projects in several fields of physical chemistry and materials, including the application of thermal
analysis methods for investigation of cultural heritage. He is the author of more than 157 articles (132 in ISI quoted journals)
and received 1100 citations. He is associated editor at Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (Springer), Chemical Papers (Spinger)
and scientific reviewer for many ISI journals. In 2011, he received Best Reviewer 2010 Award accorded by the Journal of Thermal Analysis
and Calorimetry. He is member of the Commission of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry of the Romanian Academy and in 2011 he was elected
President of this commission.
In the field of cultural heritage, Dr. Budrugeac has been investigated the historical leathers and parchments by the thermal analysis methods (thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA)). The main obtained results consist in:
- elaboration of two new criteria for qualitative distinction between the recently manufactured leathers and heritage items, which may be used for distinction between an original artifact and a bootleg
- determintion of the deterioration degree of historical leathers and parchments by TG, DSC and DMA methods
- checking of the efficiency of some conservation treatments.
